Football Queensland Wide Bay (FQWB) has staged trials for the 2021 Talent Support Program (TSP) and Skill Acquisition Phase (SAP) programs in the region in recent weeks.
The introduction of a Talent Support Program in the region alongside Wide Bay’s SAP program is set to provide additional development opportunities for young male and female players.
TSP Director Adrian Elmes said the recent trials demonstrated the wealth of young talent in the Wide Bay region.
“It was great to have 261 talented young players trial for the 2021 TSP and SAP programs held in Bundaberg and the Fraser Coast in recent weeks,” Elmes said.
“There was a huge amount of young talent on display throughout both the TSP and SAP trials, and we were impressed with the skill level of the male and female footballers in attendance.
“I’d like to thank all the players and their families who took the time to come out to the trials for the 2021 TSP and SAP programs, and we look forward to welcoming many of you into these programs next year.”
Region General Manager Andy Allan said the success of the trials would lay the foundation for the introduction of the Talent Support Program from 2021 alongside the region’s existing SAP program.
“2021 is set to be an important year for junior player development as we introduce a Talent Support Program to complement the SAP program here in the Wide Bay region,” Allan said.
“The recent TSP and SAP trials saw many talented young footballers come together to showcase their skills, and I’m confident that we will be able to deliver strong TSP and SAP programs to support the development of these players in 2021 and beyond.”
Training sessions for the 2021 TSP and SAP programs will be held on Monday nights across both regional centres.
Two teams per age group will train in the Wide Bay South and Wide Bay North hubs for the 2021 SAP program, while one team per age group will train in hubs for the Talent Support Program to eliminate travel requirements for players and families by combining training sessions of various age groups e.g. Under 13 and Under 14 teams.
Successful triallists will be notified shortly.
