Excitement is building as the Central Coast Intercity Cup looms closer for the Football Queensland Wide Bay (FQWB) Select sides who will be looking to claim victory in the inaugural tournament this weekend on Saturday, 1 May at Frenchville Sports Club.
The women’s match will get the tournament underway at 4:30pm followed by the men’s at 6:30pm.
Both the men’s and women’s squads feature a mixture of experience and youth from a host of different clubs looking to make their mark at representative level.
We’ve picked out the key players to watch who may be the difference makers for the FQWB sides this Saturday.
Women’s Players to Watch
The FQWB women’s Select side will look to target talented United Park Eagles forward Taryn Gollshewsky capable of scoring plenty of goals notching up 35 in the Bundaberg Ladies League last season.
Providing the squad with extra firepower out on the wing is Natalie Ascough from Granville FC who will look to find Gollshewsky but can also put away goals scoring 12 in the Fraser Coast Ladies league in 2020.
Sunbury FC pair Kyleigh Christiansen and Kirsty Frehmann bring additional goal scoring prowess to the squad having scored 13 goals between them so far this season.
Men’s Players to Watch
Wide Bay Premier League (WBPL) Team of The Year star Michael Stayte will be the danger man up front for the FQWB men’s squad scoring 16 goals last season.
Luke Coates from United Park Eagles (UPE) will provide the squad with some creativity in the middle of the park with fellow UPE team mate Joshua Adcock playing out on the wing and who has scored three goals in four matches so far this season.
