Football Queensland (FQ) Wide Bay is today welcoming nominations from individuals interested in joining a newly created Referee Advisory Group for the Wide Bay region.
Individuals selected to join the Advisory Group will report directly to the FQ Wide Bay Referee Coach and Development Officer in a streamlined administration model designed to create efficiencies, in line with FQ’s 2020-2022 Strategic Plan.
“The Referee Advisory Group forms part of a comprehensive and ongoing review into the structure of referee development, culture and engagement in the FQ Wide Bay zone,” Region General Manager Andy Allan said.
“The initiative has been developed to eliminate duplication and streamline processes while ensuring a collaborative and standardised approach to refereeing with local insights from across Wide Bay.
“Together with the Referee Coach and Development Officer, the Referee Advisory Group will aim to elevate standards and create a structured refereeing culture in the region.
“It will also focus on consistently engaging referees to keep them involved in the game, and on providing development support to assist them in reaching higher levels.
“This aligns with FQ’s Strategic Plan, which outlines FQ’s commitment to improving referee development opportunities and registration numbers in recognition of the fact that match officials are integral to the growth of the game.
“There is a lot of knowledge and passion we can tap into and we are hoping to find Advisory Group members who are willing and able to support our officials on and off the pitch, support their ongoing development, and help provide a structured pathway into higher levels of the game.”
FQ State Referee Manager Jacqui Hurford said the Referee Advisory Group would help foster the talent that exists in the Wide Bay region, which last year contributed two members to FQ’s inaugural Referee Academy.
“FQ rolled out a lot of exciting referee initiatives in 2020 and we want to continue that momentum in Wide Bay in 2021,” Hurford said.
“We are working with the zone to standardise, streamline and professionalise referee operations with the ultimate aim of strengthening development and support.”
Nominations for the Referee Advisory Group are now being accepted via the online nomination form until COB Friday, 5 February 2021, with an announcement to be made the following week.
